San Diego is one of America’s top sailing cities and it’s exciting to be down on the docks and out on the water every day I do it. As a lifelong photographer, I got into nautical imagery and sailing photography, intently, when I owned a sailing club for ten years. During that time we took trips all around the world to go sailing and of course, every day at the club was an adventure! It was also when I began to work with video making little keepsake memories for club members when they reached new levels of expertise or went on their first sailing vacation.
Nowadays, I can spend hours, happily, just wandering the docks or puttering about the harbor. That’s a good thing because one of my clients has me supplying them with 60 photos a month with a nautical theme! This is also making me create a large stock collection of San Diego sailing photography. Now other businesses can license them, as well, for their own social media story telling, web sites, brochures and advertising. Having to amass so many quality images in a short time month after month has taught me to really slow down and look all around my surroundings. There is so much to see if you can really open your eyes!
Recently, I went to the San Diego Wooden Boat Festival and shot a lot of wonderful old classic yachts. Then, some of them held a regatta the following weekend. So, I was able to get them out on the water too! But this also created a dilemma. My gallery web site was not set up for any of this new influx. Oh, sure, I had a Maritime photo gallery already where I put less specific images. But I was going to have to put on my web development hat and chisel out some more real estate. Fortunately, this is a relatively easy thing to do with SmugMug photo websites!
Now I’ve created a new separate section of my photo gallery web site just for my San Diego sailing photography. I hope you will go there and take a look. If you come over right now it still has a fresh paint smell! Photography is quite a process. First, of course, you have to compose an image. Then, you need to cull your images to find only the best and render them out as jpg files. Finally, they need to live somewhere so people can find and see them. I do post regularly at Facebook and Instagram but not every image. These new galleries make it possible to directly license the nautical theme and sailing photos to you for immediate download. You could be using them the same day in your business! Still others want to buy a print. My gallery is fully functional as a store to sell all sizes of prints as well as finished, framed work in a vast amount of formats.
I’m available here in San Diego, and for that matter, easily up to Oceanside, Dana Point and Newport Beach to shoot your boats. I’ve also shot yachts in Newport, RI and in the Caribbean. Yachts for sale, charter boats, boat shows, personal boats all deserve professional photography. What’s more, when I come, I can also grab video footage and even create a time-lapse if its right for the project. We can agree on a commissioned package that includes a variety of formats, sizes, everything you will want or need.
